Former president Bill Clinton said that his wife, Hillary, and republican candidate John McCain are close friends. “She and John McCain are very close. They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history, and they’re afraid they’d put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other.”
This ‘accusation’ might actually hurt the McCain campaign especially after last weeks endorsement by the New York Times. McCain is beginning to look too left wing for some conservatives. The fact that the democrats endorse and are friendly with McCain does not impress republican voters. Despite strong efforts on the McCain front to win the campaign, these messages of support from the democrats is likely to cause him to lose the election.

[...] McCain said, ” “Why is Chelsea Clinton so Ugly?” Posted in February 4th, 2008 by DE in Clinton, mccain In attempt at humor, Republican candidate John McCain said, “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.” The interesting fact about this joke is, despite criticisms from the media outlets for making the joke, no one bothered to repeat it leading people to believe that it wasn’t this nasty. More importantly though, this is quite a surprising statement after the Clinton’s claimed a few weeks ago that Hillary is close friends with McCain. [...]
I think this is right on the money, and I believe Bill Clinton knows exactly what he’s saying. They want to run against Romney, not McCain. Hillary’s only chance is to run against Romney, someone who is unelectable. In a matchup against McCain, she’d lose. The Republicans will eventually rally behind a single arrow. McCain will attract moderate democrats and independents in a thumping akin to 1980 and, even more so, 1984.
