An article on Yahoo! news writes that Obama’s victory in Iowa gave voters a strong feeling of confidence in Obama’s ability, as a black man, to win the presidential campaign. Although the article does express doubt as to whether this victory can occur in the more racist, and predominantly white states, the author does feel that this victory is a display of the change in attitudes people have towards blacks. One other not the author mentions is,
Obama is running in a way that a lot of white voters feel very sympathetic,” said Merle Black, an Emory University political scientist. “He doesn’t make them feel guilty. He’s not running a Jesse Jackson campaign or an Al Sharpton campaign. He’s positioned himself to be a candidate who happens to be black, rather than a black candidate.”
